Cuban Revolution Adds Live Music to Its Menu

The Black Repertory Company’s Donald King

To Direct Music Programming

In a merger of two long-standing, home-grown, brand names in the Providence food and entertainment scene, Cuban Revolution today announced that it has joined forces with Donald W. King, Artistic Director of The Providence Black Repertory Company to incorporate live music as part of its operations.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity for us. Although we’ve had live music on occasion at the restaurant, this is a chance to program high caliber entertainment in our restaurants on a regular basis," Cuban Revolution owner Ed Morabito said. "Just as important,, it allows us to support and partner with Providence’s Black Repertory Company, as it re-organizes under receivership in the coming months. They are a critical part of the fabric of our community and we can’t let them fail."

"Don King has enormous talent and experience and real credibility and reach in our community and in the music industry. We are excited to have him as part of our team as we continue to grow," Morabito said.

The Cuban Revolution Restaurant & Bar, which began as a 24-seat diner in downcity Providence nearly 10 years ago, now has two locations in Providence and recently expanded operations to North Carolina, opening a 180 seat restaurant in Durham.

Donald King has served as Executive Director of The Providence Black Repertory Company since its inception and has led its emergence as a vital entertainment and music venue in the region. He has an extensive background and experience in the arts. He specializes in the creation and development of award winning musical programming, event management, concert promotions and audience development. Black Rep’s weekly Latin Jazz & Salsa night along with Providence Sound Session, which he co-produces with the Providence Department of Art, Culture & Tourism annually, are examples of his ability to create & produce successful events with the ability to develop and engage diverse audiences and communities and to attract a broad base of corporate support.
