TRINITY REP, LIBRARY PARTNER TO HOST FREE FILM SCREENING OF SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE
Find your inspiration for one night only on February 22
PROVIDENCE – Trinity Repertory Company and the Providence Public Library are pleased to announce that they will partner to present a free screening of Shakespeare in Love, the 1998 romantic comedy co-written by famed playwright Tom Stoppard and starring Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow, in tandem with Trinity’s production of Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the Central Branch of the Providence Public Library, 225 Washington St., at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 22.
Following the success of a free screening of Cabaret held during the run of Trinity’s stage production, Associate Artistic Director Tyler Dobrowsky was happy to revisit this type of programming. “Shakespeare in Love is an open-hearted love letter to the greatest playwright of all time, and manages to encapsulate the magic of live theater with humor and romance (plus the occasional sword fight). We are incredibly proud to partner with our neighbor, the Providence Public Library, in screening this classic for the Providence and Rhode Island communities in conjunction with Trinity’s production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.
No reservations are necessary for the screening. Doors and seating start at 6:00 PM and the screening is set to run from 6:30-8:30 PM. Before the movie begins, a raffle will be held where attendees can win Trinity Rep merchandise, signed posters, and tickets to Twelfth Night.
Considered by many to be the Bard’s finest comedy, Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s tangled tale of romance amidst the revelry of the Twelfth Night festival on the stormy isle of Illyria. Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Actor Cherie Corinne Rice (’10) takes on the dual roles of Viola and her twin brother Sebastian, both of whose affections are in high demand. Mistaken identities are just the beginning of this topsy-turvy mess. Award-winning actor and director Brian McEleney (Hamlet, Our Town, A Raisin in the Sun) will direct and star in an ensemble that includes resident actors Stephen Berenson, Mauro Hantman, Anne Scurria, Fred Sullivan Jr., Stephen Thorne and Joe Wilson Jr. The show runs through March 7 in the Chace Theater. Tickets start at $10 and are on sale now at the Trinity Rep box office, 201 Washington Street; by phone at (401)-351-4242; and online at www.trinityrep.com.
