RE:  Martin Luther King Community Food Drive, Update

Hello colleagues,

Let me start by bringing you up to date on our food donations.  As of last week, we collected 1,300 pounds of food.  We are going strong and want to thank you.  We also want to share the plans we have from now until the 23rd of February when the census van stops at Progreso Latino.  We still have almost two weeks to collect food.  We encourage you to keep at it so we can take care of many, many families during this winter season.

We spoke with the Census Van people in Boston.  Everything is in order for our

event which will be from 10am - 1pm on February 23rd at Progreso Latino.  We shall have

a press conference at 10 am with local dignitaries and representatives of the food pantries.  Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend; please feel free to invite others.  Two groups of students from the Central Falls School System’s Tall University Program will entertain.

Everyone is welcome to tour the Census van and learn about the history of the census.  Spanish speaking volunteers will be there to answer any questions.  The census group will be giving out miscellaneous souvenirs like kids hats, shopping bags, water bottles, soft balls, and other items.

We encourage you to be here and to invite your clients to participate also.  We are asking everyone on the committee to RSVP so we know whom we can expect to see on that morning.  We could not have done this without you and we want to acknowledge you at the press conference.

Many of you have gone the extra mile to collect food.  Both our clients and our staff thank you for this important work.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

PS:  We are interested in having one or two food pantry leaders speak during the press conference about their experience.  It would also be important to have a client say a few words. Please let us know if you’re interested no later than Thursday February 18th.
