We are closing the gap
Across our nation closing  the achievement gap between low-income students and their wealthier counterparts remains the most pressing challenge in public education.

What is The Learning Community doing about the achievement gap?
The Learning Community was founded to prove that poverty is not a barrier to high student achievement.  And we are proving it.

The Learning Community is getting a larger proportion of low-income students to meet the standard in reading and math than the state overall (see above).  And our low-income students are outperforming their peers in every urban district in Rhode Island.

Wow, that's impressive, but is it enough?
No.  Every student deserves an excellent education, and the single most important factor in student success is teacher quality.  The Learning Community is supporting great teachers with tools and training. To learn more about our strategy for state-wide impact click here

At The Learning Community, we believe that literacy empowers each individual to have a voice, assume community responsibility, and take social action. We expect leadership at every level.  We grow teacher leaders, student leaders and community leaders.
