Certificate: Roger Williams University officially recognized the Housing, Economic and Community Development Certificate offered through the Partnership for Community Development this March. Please see the attached chart for requirements.
TIME TO ENROLL FOR FALL COURSES!!! This fall RWU will offer two of the core courses- “Elements and Issues in Community Development” and “Community Economic Development”- as well as a wide array of electives.
PA 430.41 Elements and Issues in Community Development
Tuesdays 6:15-9:00 pm-First class September 1, 2009
Providence Campus
A brief history of the profession and selected classical theories of community development. Examples of problems faced by community development practitioners as well as opportunities, experimental and novel approaches being tested in the profession, and a survey of best practices. The course will conclude with a call to action.
PA 430.42 Sustainable Community Economic Development
Mondays 6:15-9:00 -First class August 31, 2009
Providence Campus
The definition and classic purpose of economic development will be explored, as well as, strategies for long-term sustainable initiatives. The course will include a review of employment and economic indicators, micro-enterprise and entrepreneurship, and the nexus of housing, community development with economic development.

Schedule: Registration is open until the first week of classes, however returning students should be registered by August 1, 2009. Scholarship applications must be received NO LATER than Friday August 14, 2009.
Spring 2009: Two core courses- “Housing and Development Skills”, and “Non-profit Management”, will be offered in the spring semester, as well as, a wide array of electives.
