Live music, food, dancing, colorful costumes and the sights and sounds of Dominican culture will envelope Roger Williams Park on Sunday at the 22 annual Dominican festival.
The daylong event, hosted by Quisqueya in Action, has traditionally drawn thousands of participants from throughout New England and beyond. This year, organizers invited other local cultural organizations to participate, said Janet Pichardo, an event coordinator.
The celebration will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. at Thurbers Avenue and Broad Street. The floats will represent various countries, Latino organizations and folk dancers. Parade participants are asked to arrive by 9 a.m. so the parade order can be established.
10am – 7pm, the 22nd annual Dominican Festival will start with a parade to Roger Williams Park in Providence at 10am at Broad Street and Thurbers Avenue. The festival will be held at the Temple to Music from noon to 7 p.m. Enjoy a fun day for the entire family. Lots of food, soft drinks, cultural dances, live music, kids play area, and more. Proceeds, chiefly from food sales, will benefit the Quisqueya in Action's College Awareness and Preparation Program of Rhode Island.
For the last three years, the organization has worked to promote education and address the problem of high dropout rates in urban areas.
