Kayborn Brown Sentenced to Life for 2008 Beating Death of Central Falls Man Attorney General Peter Kilmartin today announced that Kayborn Brown (DOB: 10/09/89 ), with a last known address of 100 Daboll Street, Providence, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2008 beating death of Jorge Restrepo in Central Falls. Brown was found guilty of on November 23, 2010 by a Providence County Superior Court jury in a trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause. Justice Krause sentenced Brown to life for the charge of murder, 10 years to serve for conspiracy to commit robbery, 10 years to serve for possession of a firearm, and one year to serve for reckless driving, sentences to run consecutive. Under Rhode Island General Law, Brown is not eligible for parole on the life sentence for at least 20 years and is not eligible to earn time off for good behavior on the murder conviction. Today’s sentence will run consecutive to a 15 year sentence Brown is serving on a robbery conviction from October 2009 (State v. Brown, P1/08-3247A). Jorge Restrepo was just steps from his home on Watson Street in Central Falls when he was brutally beaten and killed in a robbery. On afternoon of August 4, 2008, Mr. Restrepo was walking home from his job when he was accosted by two unknown male assailants. One of the assailants, later identified by witnesses as Kayborn Brown, repeatedly punched and kicked Mr. Restrepo while brandishing a bright red gun. After several minutes pass, the two males leave Mr. Restrepo in the street, battered and unresponsive. Mr. Restrepo was brought to Memorial Hospital and later transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where a day later he was pronounced dead as a result of head trauma. Two days later, Kayborn Brown and his brother Keishon Brown led Providence Police on a automobile chase down North Main Street. The chase ended when the car crashed and mounted a curb, where the driver and passenger jump out of the vehicle and fled on foot. In pursuit, Providence Police officers see a bright red gun in Keishon Brown’s hand. Keishon later tells police the gun belonged to his brother, Kayborn, who threw it in his lap before they fled the vehicle. Hearing of the incident in Providence, Central Falls Police contacted the Providence Police believing there may be a connection to the attack on Mr. Restrepo two days earlier. Later, witnesses identified Kayborn Brown as one of the two males who they saw beat Mr. Restrepo. The other individual involved in the robbery has not yet been identified. “The tragic death of Mr. Restrepo is the result of a senseless act of violence by a young man who was already well on his way to leading a life of crime. Kayborn Brown was a menace on our streets, with a long criminal that escalated from drugs and robbery to murder,” said Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin. Assistant Attorney General Scott Erickson and Special Assistant James M. Callaghan prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General. Detective Lieutenant Steve Bradley and Detective Chris Reed led the investigation for the Central Falls Police. ###
